Lets get started - Issue #1
Hey, welcome to the first edition of the YVR Cycling Collective newsletter - Thanks for being here!
Since this newsletter is very new, no one submitted anything through the contribute form just yet (unless you count my test submissions…), so I curated a few things myself to get the ball rolling. Update - As I was putting the finishing touches on this edition, I got the first community submission, so it has been added below (I am too lazy to adjust this paragraph) 🎉
Whats in this edition?
YVR Cycling Discord Server
Tyrone, who runs the awesome Rileys Rips events (and other initiatives around Vancouver), started a Discord server earlier this year in an effort to bring the cycling community together. He is great at connecting people and the server has grown to close to 500 people in a short period of time.
We chatted about his vision on several occasions, I love where this is going and I am stocked on being a part of it.

Book - We Will Never Be Here Again
Former professional cyclist and adventurer Svein Tuft wrote a book and while I didn’t get my hands on a copy (yet), I am sure it will be a fascinating read! You can order a copy through kickstarter or locally at Bici.
3D Bike Parts - NJF Export
Fraser designs and manufactures cycling parts and accessories right in Mount Pleasant.
In his words:
‘This is my little small startup business that I've been plugging away at for 2 years now and am trying to make it into the bigger and broader world. I found a lot of success in the fixed gear community with 3D printed brakeless hoods. This year launched the mini milk crate coozie, a mini milk crate shaped bottle holder that mounts to your standard bike bolts, other zip ties to the inside of your basket to keep your bevvies upright and steady’.
The mini milk crate is available at Velo Star and online. All the links you need to check out Frasers work are below!
Biehler Syndicate CC Ride - February 23rd
This is a social ride hosted by local SYN ambassadors: Melanie, Brian and Drew.
Meeting point: McArthurGlen Outlet Mall
Time: Meet at 9:15, leave at 9:30
Distance: 58km (flat)
Please check the Strava event for updates and to make sure the ride is still happening, as it might be weather dependent.
This is the first edition, so things are just getting started and will likely evolve over time.
This newsletter platform has a built in website, making it easy to browse previous editions and I can also add static pages. As a starting point, I added a page titled ‘contribute’ with a link to the submission form so you can easily contribute to this newsletter if you wish (see welcome post for information). I plan on adding two more pages:
A calendar with local races / events / various group rides. You will be able to submit events directly to the calendar and add the events you are interested in to your personal calendar.
Resources page with a database organized into categories so you can easily find what you’re looking for - Local Rides, retailers, products, etc.
The calendar is almost ready, so it should be good to go by the start of March. The resource database will likely be ready by mid March. Both will get updated regularly.
Alright, this is all for the first edition. Starting small and building from here, hopefully with your help. If there is anything you would like to see in this newsletter, let me know by commenting below (preferred method, so we can all start an open discussion) or reply to this email. If you want to contribute to this newsletter, click here to submit anything related to cycling in the lower mainland.
Note - If you are reading this in your inbox, scroll to the top and click on ‘read online’, as this will allow you to see the comment box (and listen to this newsletter instead of reading it).
Know anyone who rides bikes in the lower mainland? Share this newsletter with them!
Happy riding,
Noa
