YVR Cycling Collective
Introducing a space for all your Vancouver (and lower mainland) cycling and multisport updates, events, clubs, people who are involved in the community and more
Hey, welcome. Thanks for being here!
I have a love - hate relationship with newsletters, which is why I don’t write them as often as I should (I do like sending my articles via email, but it’s not really a newsletter in the more traditional sense). I do like reading various newsletter when they are less about selling stuff and more about building community, staying informed about people doing interesting / helpful / fun things and generally a curation of awesome things.
This newsletter is partially inspired by my pal Tyrone, who does a lot of good stuff for the cycling community in Vancouver (if you are reading this, there is a very good chance you know him). We chatted over coffee a few weeks ago about various initiatives we both have on the go and in the middle of the conversation, I had an idea - A database with all the different clubs, communities, retailers and other services for cyclists in the Greater Vancouver area.
I started working on the database right away, but quickly realized that it will need to adjusted constantly and then I will need to let people know I made some changes… So perhaps there is a better way, like a newsletter format with a resource area, calendar and
There are so many clubs, groups, initiatives, discord channels and more for cyclists in Vancouver, but it is hard to find out about many of them, not to mention stay up to date on everything. Everything seems a bit scattered. Even if you follow all of them all social media, it can get overwhelming (Also, if you’re like me, perhaps you are getting a bit tired of social media…?)
So, here we go. A newsletter that curates updates from different clubs, communities, retailers, other services for cyclists (and multisport athletes), group rides and events in the Greater Vancouver area so you know what is happening in our community.
For this to work, it can’t just be me - I need your help. I created a form where you can submit the following:
A cycling club
Cycling retailer / related business
A local cyclist you look up to (so we can feature cyclists from our community)
An online community / Discord server / etc
Regular group ride
Events
Race organizers
Books, magazines, interesting article you read, inspiring videos..
Cycling YouTube channel (by someone local)
Other (I am open to ideas)
The form is evergreen, meaning that if you hear about something fun relevant to cycling in Vancouver, you can submit it to be featured in the newsletter. You can use the form whenever and as many times as you would like.
The goal is to publish a newsletter with a curation of what is happening in the Vancouver cycling community every 2-4 weeks to start off with, but ideally weekly, if I get submissions regularly - Publishing intervals will largely depend on community involvement.
